power-rangers

We’ve heard of many films setting up cinematic franchises but ‘Power Rangers‘ is betting big that the upcoming film will be a hit as Saban is laying the groundwork with this one to bring us six movies. That’s right; producer Haim Saban has plans for the series which could have it rival the television show in epicness if not length and it is all beginning here.

According to Saban:

We already have a six-movie story arc… If this film is as successful as I hope, on March 24, on March 25 we’ll have the first story meeting for Movie No. 2.

They apparently didn’t skimp on the visuals either from what the trailers are showing as he also says that:

today’s young audience is much more sophisticated. Think about movies like ‘Jungle Book’ and ‘Arrival.’ The effects are mind-boggling. So does the young audience expect more? You bet they do — and they will have it.

Special effects aren’t everything though isn’t the only thing that matter as we’ll want a solid plot for six films so hopefully screenwriter John Gatins was able to deliver that as he doubles down on the visuals:

Making the effects state-of-the-art, that will be a big draw for the super-fans. They understand that there was a funny, kitsch quality about the old TV show. We had big aspirations of making a movie that was visually exciting.

Thankfully, Saban was quick to point out that there was a focus on the characters being developed as well:

The effects are only part of the movie. We also are developing likable characters. They don’t take themselves too seriously, in terms of how they relate. I wanted the movie to say that losers or weirdos, by coming together, can realize the importance of the responsibility on their shoulders.

Early reports have the film sounding like a lot of fun, so I’m hoping fans will be able to enjoy this as much as the critics seem to be.

Are you looking forward to the ‘Power Rangers’ movie? Do you feel that six films were too far to plan out before the first launched or has Marvel’s Cinematic Universe made that a staple of any franchise that wants to begin these days? Share your thoughts below!
