Now that work on Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ is winding down, it’s nearly time for Jason Momoa to shift his focus to his very own solo film in the DC Cinematic Universe. Under the direction of ‘Saw’ and ‘Insidious’ filmmaker James Wan, ‘Aquaman’ is set to commence production in May in order to meet a 2018 release. But before cameras roll and some set photos leak online, new details have just been revealed thanks to the latest casting call.

Thanks to a recent posting on Acting Audition, we’ve learned a few small but important elements about the King of the Seas’ story from a new synopsis for the film. Now, this plot description may sound like more of what we’ve heard before, but there are slight changes that could mean big things. Before we get into the analysis, you can check it out right here:

‘Aquaman’ will center on Aquaman as a reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis who is caught between land dwellers that are always polluting the globe and his own people who are ready to invade the surface.

Now, there are two key words to focus on here. The first one is “reluctant”. Aquaman is described as a reluctant king. If his heart isn’t fully in the job, then that could cause friction between himself and his kingdom. After all, a “reluctant” ruler acts differently than your everyday, run of the mill ruler. On another level, that could fuel his enemies’ vendetta against him. Either way, it will be interesting to see how it plays out in the finished product.

The other word to take note of is “invade”. In the first plot descriptions, it sounded like this was an attack was a revolt in response to worldwide pollution. An invasion is a much larger incident. This makes it sound like all of Atlantis is in on it and they have been for a long time. This isn’t just a small group of Atlanteans rebelling. This could very well be the entire lost city and then some. If that is indeed the case, then this reluctant king has some major problems in store for him.

What do you think about the new synopsis for ‘Aquaman’? Do you think that these small changes could mean big trouble for the ocean dweller? Let us know your thoughts and theories in the comments.

‘Aquaman’ starring Jason Momoa, Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Temuera Morrison, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II dive into theaters on October 5, 2018.

A Ruler of Atlantis mad at surface-dwellers for polluting the oceans??

I’ll just watch AQUAMAN thinking Jason Momoa’s playing Namor instead— blonde dyes to his hair, blue contact lenses, and Tribal tats DON’T make him look like any closer to “Arthur Curry” to me. (And Momoa’s got TWO hands, too.)

Aquaman in Name Only. Imperius Rex!
