Black Widow 1

From the first time she was introduced in ‘Iron Man 2’, True Believers have been clamoring for a solo Black Widow movie. As the years went on, True Believers learned more and more about the fiery redhead with red in her ledger as she continued to play a larger part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, as we progress well into Phase Three with films like ‘Black Panther’, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’, Scarlett Johansson’s super spy has yet to branch out into an adventure of her own. But the actress feels as though it’s only a matter of time until it finally happens.

In a recent interview from the latest issue of Total Film (via Newsarama), the ‘Ghost in the Shell’ star spoke about a potential spinoff featuring Natasha Romanoff. While she indicated that it will probably happen, Johansson said that a number of things would have to line up such as schedules and the right story:

“I’ve talked to Kevin Feige about it. We’re creatively really compatible. I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, it’s just a case of timing at this point for both Marvel and myself. Marvel has a really huge roster. They’re looking four years ahead. I also have a lot of things that I want to do. If I did it, I would dedicate myself completely to making it amazing. It would have to be the best version that movie could possibly be. Otherwise, I would never do it.

I think the fans were adamant about it, it could be done. It should be done, probably. It’d have to be done the right way, though. It’d really have to be its own standalone and its own style and its own story. But there’s a lot of great stuff that you could do with it. It could just be awesome.”

As much as we want to delve deeper into the Black Widow’s story, ScarJo has a great point. Marvel Studios isn’t just going to throw something together. The MCU is an intricate puzzle that they’re basically revealing one piece at a time. Then as each new piece is unveiled, it tends to be even more awesome than the next. And sometimes a new piece isn’t even a movie as we’ve seen with ‘Inhumans’, ’Runaways’, or anything on Netflix. So this project will culminate eventually when the time is right. After all, we’ve seen what can happen when superhero movies are just churned out for the hell of it well before they’re ready time and time and time again. Natasha deserves better than that, so for now, we’ll just have to be patient and be excited for whatever is planned for her in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and beyond.
