Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-2-Ayesha-Elizabeth-Debicki

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains potential SPOILERS for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’.  Proceed with caution!

Among the new introductions in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, a golden goddess of sorts, based on the comic book character more popularly known as Her or Kismet.  Her is the female counterpart to a fairly major Marvel hero, Adam Warlock, but it is unknown if he will be part of the films.

Director James Gunn doesn’t come right out and confirm Warlock’s existence in the films, but says the potential is there:

“[It’s] totally possible.  They’re created in pods.”

Ayesha and her race The Sovereign will serve as the antagonists in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ and Gunn does give a bit of info about them and how they factor into the film’s plot:

“She’s a member of this race called the Sovereign, and they’re all genetically created by themselves as a self-sustaining race who are perfect.”

He also stated:

“She’s the one who hires the Ravagers to go after Quill because, and this is sort of a spoiler, so you should be a little careful about it, after the opening that I already described where they’re paid to protect these super-duper expensive batteries that run the entire Sovereign planet, they’re walking away.  They’ve defeated the monster, they’re heading back to their ship, and Rocket reveals to Drax that he’s stolen like three of these batteries, because they’re really expensive and they’re not going to notice and ‘Who cares?’

“The Sovereign are kind of dicks anyway.  They’re very pompous, and they’re gold and they’re easily offended, which we’re also told early in this sequence, and that there’s a very particular way you need to deal with them, and you need to speak with them and you need to be delicate, which is not easy for the Guardians, and certainly not easy when Rocket reveals that he’s snagged these things right out from under them, and that creates a bit of strife for them as the Sovereign end up chasing after them, less because they want those three batteries back, but more because how dare they insult the great Sovereign people.”

Yep, sounds like the ‘Guardians’ we got to know and love in the first off-beat Marvel movie.  It also sounds like this film will also be something of a stand-alone, free-for-all as there is no mention of tying this to the larger unfolding Thanos/’Infinity War’ storyline.

Are you excited to zip through the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?  Or would you rather see something that more closely built upon the other films?

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ directed by James Gunn, starring Chris Pratt, Zoë Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Benicio del Toro, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper takes off on May 5, 2017.
