Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ gained a cult following in record time and fans are anxiously awaiting the show’s return this summer.  The show is currently shooting, but some of the cast–David Harbour (Chief Jim Hopper), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Shannon Purser (Barbara “Barb” Holland), Randall Havens (Mr. Clarke) and Catherine Dyer (Agent Connie Frazier), plus Art Director Bill Davis– took time off to participate in this year’s Fan2Sea cruise con and Harbour teased a bit of what fans could expect in the upcoming sophomore season.

As everyone knows, ‘Stranger Things’ is packed to the gills with 80s film references and one that people most often cite is ‘The Goonies’, so how meta that Sean Astin, who starred in that classic as Mikey, the main character, had landed a role on the show.  But who is he playing?

Harbour revealed:

“We have Sean Astin… he’s Winona’s new boyfriend — much to the chagrin to the Chief of Police.”

He also teased:

“It’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year — like Will has come back — there are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened.  So there’s a lot of fall out with who knows what.”

As you may have noticed, Purser and Dyer– two actors whose characters died in the first season– were on hand for the panel.  And Barb’s death was one of the most buzzed about events in all of Season One as fans began posting on social media with the hashtag “Justice for Barb.”  That will factor into Season Two, but don’t get your hopes up on her miraculously having survived her encounter with the Demogorgon.

Harber stated:

“The question and the feelings that Nancy has that no one ever cares about her friend Barb, are very much present in the beginning of the season.”

The creators of the show have stated that they have barely scratched the surface of The Upside Down, so there should still be plenty of chills in upcoming seasons.

Unfortunately a release date hasn’t been set, but the last one started in the summer, so it’s most likely that the second will as well (giving folks plenty of time to figure out new cosplay ideas before Halloween).

Are you excited to see ‘Stranger Things’ return?
