Many were left wanting when the first ‘Power Rangers’ teaser was released, because… well, it wasn’t that powerful.  But Lionsgate has finally released a new trailer which shows the teens in their fully-suited up glory as well as Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Bill Hader as Alpha-5, plus a “whole lotta gold” as CGI Goldar and Megazord!

Director Dean Israelite said:

“I really wanted to try hard to make everything photographed in a very real, contemporary style — even in the ways we executed the design, I wanted you to be able to look at the machines and the ship and the suits, as if it’s its own universe. I want our one to be seen as its own thing.”

Check out the new trailer below:

The new ‘Power Rangers’ looks to be a mix of the classic show with a bit of ‘Chronicle’ mixed in as the teens– R.J. Cyler as Billy, Becky G. as Trini, Ludi Lin as Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Jason and Naomi Scott as Kimberly– discover their powers and their ability to… well, glow.  And as Zack discovers, he’s Black… in a manner of speaking.

This version of Zordon is a bit different from the blue floating head from the original show, but still seems other worldly.  Plus we get a good look at Rita and the Putty Patrol, which are cranked up quite a bit from the dudes in spandex unitards from the show.

In the new version, Zordon will reportedly be the original Red Ranger and Rita may be the first Green Ranger.  The Rangers are usually trained from a young age to be killer combatants but in this case, Zordon and Alpha-5 have to make due with this group which is sort of a new version of ‘The Breakfast Club’, five teens sentenced to detention, which somehow leads to them gaining super human powers.

What do you think?  Does the new trailer make you more optimistic for the film?
