With Ghost Rider off Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ for the time being we’ve already learned that Mallory Jansen’s Aida will be the new threat as this Life Model Decoy or LMD, has a mind of her own and she doesn’t seem to have the agency’s best interests in mind. They’ve been building her up all season as a background character and rightfully so that leads into the perfect transition as to how she will end up being the next villain on the show. The comics have long had LMD’s end up as villains with many based upon Nick Fury himself.
So, a couple of spoilers ahead on the season finale of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ before we go into the synopsis so if you haven’t caught up yet now is the time to turn back!
We already know that Aida went full on villain with the finale by killing a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, having Agent May captured, and a LMD of May having a drink with Coulson. We don’t quite know if the Darkhold set her against humanity or if it just ended up happening that like Ultron, all AI hate humans. Either way, that puts the following synopsis into perfect perspective as:
On the heels of their encounter with Ghost Rider, their strangest phenomenon yet, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. suddenly find themselves up against a myriad of new and ongoing threats: The anti-Inhuman Watchdogs are gaining political influence with Senator Nadeer, and uniting behind a mysterious benefactor. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the team, Aida has kidnapped Agent May and replaced her with a Life Model Decoy. Aida’s evil plans for May and the team remain a mystery.
It sounds like the Watchdogs and whoever is backing them will be the initial threat. I suspect the backer will be part of a shadowy organization or a supervillain though exactly which one is anyone’s guess at this time. Still, it seems that Aida’s plans will be longer term and we probably won’t know much until the last act of the season which will either bleed over into the next or be wrapped up just in time to give us a tease of a new story arc.
