We’ve known for awhile that when ‘Allegiant’ tanked at the box office that Lionsgate wanted to take ‘Ascendant and turn it into a made for TV film that would then lead into a spinoff series, but Theo James doubts anyone from the main cast will be returning for it. Much of the actors have already been quite outspoken on being against the series ending on the small screen, including leading lady Shailene Woodley who plays Trist, the central character of the ‘Divergent’ series. While Woodley did stress that she wasn’t interested in a television series after the fact, it seems as if she was unenthused on going this route at all.

In a recent interview with Too Fab, this televised conversion was brought up with James who stated:

“My message would be ‘Thanks for the support.’ I think it’s a shame that we can’t finish the story, but I think it’s evolving in a place where the actors that have been in the three movies probably won’t be in whatever it evolves to in the future.”

James plays Four opposite Woodley’s Tris in the feature films and if the two actors weren’t interested in resuming their roles on television, even for a single film to bridge the gap for different characters to be on the show, it seems unlikely that this story will get a closing chapter.

It almost feels like they would have to go the dreaded reboot route in order to fully tell the story from the novels. It really is sad that it looks as if they won’t be able to complete the story but as each installment has reached fewer eyes than the last it seems like it is time to put the ‘Divergent’ series to rest.

Are you sad that Theo and Shailene won’t return for the last chapter to close out the ‘Divergent’ series or do you feel that going the made for TV route is just an insult to these actors? Share your thoughts below!
