There has been a lot of speculation recently as to if Chandler Riggs would survive this season of ‘The Walking Dead‘ due to his contract being up and his father sending out a Facebook update making it sound rather questionable. To throw another wrench in the words, Riggs was recently accepted into Auburn University and that makes you have to wonder if the son of Rick Grimes can still make time to survive the harshness of a zombie apocalypse when he’s trying to survive the college experience.

Well, when asked if he could stay on the show and keep up on his studies he gave a very measured response by stating:

“Yes. Theoretically, I could take one or two classes on campus and maybe an online class. My professors would have to be willing to cooperate. It wouldn’t be easy but I think that could be possible.”

The way he phrased it there almost makes it sound like something that’s feasible but isn’t what he’d want to be doing. With his contract up could this mean the end of Carl Grimes is coming up in the near future? We don’t know as of yet if this is something that has been decided upon or just more of the contract negotiations going on for his return to come with a bigger paycheck.

Previously when asked about it, he had said:

“You never know how it will go. I really do hope it works out because that would be really cool. I like to be in The Walking Dead and I like to play video games and just hang out with my friends and try to be as normal as possible so going to college would be another really cool, normal experience in my life. I want for it to work out.”

So it does seem that the idea of working and going to school is something that he’d like to end up doing. On the flip side, Auburn, Alabama isn’t that far from Atlanta, Georgia in the grand scheme of things and the show has a big enough cast to not need Carl to show up in the house every single episode.

Of course, this could also just be misdirection from the cast and crew prior to a mid-season break that gives us a “did Carl die or not?” cliffhanger.

Are you looking forward to seeing how this will be playing out? Do you think Carl is a goner or will he be a fixture on the series for quite some time? Share your thoughts below!
