Well the world promotional tour is certainly on for Gareth Edwards, who has the happy task of promoting ‘Rogue One‘ to millions of ‘Star Wars’ fans across the world in anticipation of its upcoming release, fielding hundreds of questions from anxious fans who cannot wait to see the latest addition to the universe they love so much. Most recently, Edwards was being interviewed in France, and the interviewer decided to hit him with some serious questions about what we could expect in terms of Easter eggs in ‘Rogue One,’ especially since it sets up the events that begin ‘A New Hope,’ namely Princess Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2 fleeing Darth Vader with those very same Death Star plans the Rebels supposedly steal in the upcoming movie. So, of course, the big questions he is asked are, will be seeing Leia or R2-D2 in the movie, questions which of course, he does not answer. So, of course, the big questions he was asked were will be seeing Leia or R2-D2 in the movie – questions which, of course, he does not answer. Instead, he merely answers “I do not want to ruin it for people.” Yet even this cryptic answer, and his body language, suggests something is up, so who knows? Maybe we will see a digital Carrie Fisher? Or R2 rolling around somewhere behind Bail Organa, who I believe is already confirmed to make an appearance in the movie.

Other big questions that were asked were about whether we would see a Jedi in the film, to which he also gave a coy answer: “Technically, yes” which is odd considering he also has said “The absence of Jedi hangs over the movie.” So what could this mean? Well, Darth Vader could be considered a Jedi by some become of his origins and how he ends his life, so that alone could justify that answer as Vader is in the movie. Plus part of the movie does take place on that Jedi planet, so there could be loopholes there as well, so there’s any number of ways that Edwards could get away with saying “yes” and still not have a Force-wielding mystic bad-ass running around deflecting lasers with his lightsaber in the movie.

Check out the full interview for yourself below (the Leia and Jedi comments come in around the 6:10 mark), and then feel to share your thoughts on whether Leia could actually make an appearance, the likelihood of R2 being there (why not? it’s not like he’s got an actor contract problem or an aging issue), and how you interpret the Jedi remarks made by Edwards in the comment section below!
