Back in May, the suits from the new ‘Power Rangers’ movie were revealed and predictably, they were a huge departure from the plain spandex jumpsuits from the original show and even the foam padded versions from the 1993 movie.  Many pointed to the similarity to Iron Man’s armor.  There’s also a bit of “The Guyver” in the mix, which appears to be intentional.  Production designer Andrew Menzies stated that the new suits are “an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made.”  The suits are meant to embody “their energy, their spirit.”

The new movie is meant to be more grounded and realistic while (hopefully) still retaining the fun aspect of the original show.

Now some new images have appeared that give a better look at the new costumes.  The lighting is a bit questionable, so… sorry about the glowing crotches.  I guess they really are “Mighty.”  But check them out below:

A popular fan theory is that Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa is a former Ranger herself, specifically the Green Ranger.  Her costume shares certain elements with the Rangers’, so that’s a possibility, but then again, perhaps that’s just the general aesthetic of the movie.

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

‘Power Rangers’ hits theaters everywhere on March 24, 2017.
