‘Logan‘ is the third and final Wolverine film and supposedly the last movie which we’ll see Hugh Jackman pop his claws and until now the plot has mostly been shrouded in mystery. Yes, we had learned that it will take aspects from Old Man Logan into its creation, would likely be the last appearance of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and also that Mister Sinister will be the major villain, but the studio has been pretty quiet outside of that. Honestly, I’m dying to find out more and if you are too it’s time to move forward! If you want to wait until the first trailer drops though I’d head back now as there could be spoilers below.
So for starters ‘Logan’ is officially taking place in 2024, setting it in the future of the current films and has a darker tone than any of the X-Men movies to date. With it being further down the road in the timeline we do get an older Logan who drinks a lot. Something happened and not only is he sick, but his powers are failing and his healing factor has been dialed down significantly taking him much longer to recover from a fight.
Also for work, he drives a 2024 Chrysler 300 limo so I can’t even begin to guess who is sponsoring the movie.
Director James Mangold has also publically said that not only is Logan “older” but that “it’s clear his abilities aren’t what they once were.” With Mister Sinister being the main villain of the film and ‘The Wolverine’ already showing Logan without his healing healing factor it would be no surprise if this supervillain was behind Wolverine’s current condition.
A side note, in 2024 mutant births are on the decline and that a government program called Transigen is tracking them down and turning them into assassins. Wolverine stumbled across a young two clawed girl, the one in the picture obviously, who he ends up mentoring. Yes, this will be the introduction to X-23 and sadly it is far in the future which means she won’t be able to tangle with the rest of the X-Men unless more time travel occurs in the movie.
It isn’t just young mutants that Wolverine is taking care of though as Stephen Merchant is playing Caliban and the two are helping an aging Professor X whose powers have also become unstable and at times he doesn’t even remember who Logan is.
