We haven’t run a story on ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ since last year, so to be honest, I forgot all about it.  But it’s due in July of next year, so it looks like it’s time for 20th Century Fox to remind everyone that the third and final chapter of what they are calling “The Caesar Trilogy” is coming soon!

And the first stop is New York Comic Con next weekend!  Director Matt Reeves, Caesar himself– star Andy Serkis and producer Dylan Clark will appear on Thursday, October 6th at the Regal E-Walk Theater at 8:30pm to unveil the first footage of the latest installment.

Last year, Reeves discussed ‘War’, saying:

“It’s going to be an epic story. I think you’ve probably read that I sort of described it where in the first film was very much about his rise from humble beginnings to being a revolutionary. The second movie was about having to rise to the challenge of being a great leader in the most difficult of times. This is going to be the story that is going to cement his status as a seminal figure in ape history, and sort of leads to an almost biblical status. He is going to become like a mythic ape figure, like Moses.”

The upcoming conflict was teased at the end of the last movie, 2014’s ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’.

Prior to the reveal of the new footage, Fox has released a synopsis:

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins this own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Clearly, Serkis returns as Caesar, joined by Judy Greer as Cornelia.  They are joined by newcomers Woody Harrelson and Steven Zahn.

Are you ready for the last installment of this trilogy?
