supergirl-superman

With the second season premiere of ‘Supergirl’ coming in two weeks, the pre-season promotion is kicking into high gear. And with actor Tyler Hoechlin making his own debut as Superman in that very episode, the focus of that promotional blitz has been at least as much on the Man of Steel as it has his titular cousin.

This latest preview (which arrives courtesy of Entertainment Weekly), could be described as an expanded version of a teaser that landed last week, clocking in at nearly three times the length. Like last week’s teaser, this preview shows Superman and Supergirl independently responding to the same crisis, namely an out of control rocket. However, the extended length of this preview allows it to tease more than just the action, as it begins with the calm before the storm, giving us a taste not only of Hoechlin’s take on Superman, but also his portrayal of Clark Kent. In fact, nearly the full first half of this clip is dedicated to introducing Kent (seen on the street in the midst of a phone conversation with Perry White) and showing him transition (including the iconic shirt rip) to his Superman identity. From there, we follow Supergirl to the rocket where she is soon joined by her cousin. I could go into more detail, but suffice it to say that it is classic Superman action as the two team up to (hopefully) save the day. Take a look at the full two minute preview below:

With regard to Superman himself, fans who find themselves left cold by Zach Snyder and Henry Cavill’s often controversial big screen iteration of the Man of Steel should find much to like here, as it is already being made clear that Hoechlin’s version of the character is a much more classic representation in both his civilian and superhero identities.

‘Supergirl’ returns at 8:00 pm on October 10, 2016, and stars Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Mehcad Brooks, and Jeremy Jordan.
