Star Wars

While a live-action ‘Star Wars’ show seems like a no-brainer with how Disney’s Marvel properties have been doing on Netflix, it seems that there are currently no plans for Lucasfilm to bring a series to the small screen at this time. While we’re loving Disney XD’s ‘Star Wars Rebels,’ it seems like that will be the only series we can hope to see for the foreseeable future.

That isn’t to say that a live-action show isn’t in the works, it is just that the focus of live-action ‘Star Wars’ development is clearly just for the big screen right now.

Here is what Disney Media Networks Co-Chairman and Disney-ABC Television President Ben Sherwood had to say in a recent interview when the concept was brought up:

“Somewhere we hope in a galaxy not too far away there will be a television show that will air on one of our networks. But I wouldn’t get anybody’s hopes up too high. They have a lot of movies to make between now and then.”

While Lucasfilm has ‘Star Wars’ films planned through 2020 at this point I don’t think that would rule out the opportunity for it to occur before that time. It seems like an idea that is being discussed but clearly isn’t at a point where they can talk about it let alone fit it into their busy schedule. I mean outside of movies there is ‘Star Wars Rebels’ as I mentioned before, novels, and comics which all in canon. To add a new ongoing Television series they would have to be able to keep track of that on top of everything else which is something they would clearly want to ease into and not just jump on and hope for the best.

It should also be noted that Sherwood did mention that ABC and Disney are having “ongoing conversations” with Lucasfilm about the next ‘Star Wars’ animated series which is currently being planned out.

Are you sad to hear that there won’t be a live-action ‘Star Wars’ television series in the near future or are you happy that they aren’t rushing into something which could end poorly if not well executed? Share your thoughts below!
