the-grandmaster

Nearly four months ago, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ added a number of new stars to their already stacked cast. Taika Waititi’s upcoming Phase Three already featured the talents of Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Jamie Alexander, and Mark Ruffalo, but on that May day, the likes of Karl Urban, Cate Blanchard, and Tessa Thompson officially joined the production.

However, the biggest news from that announcement was that fan favorite actor Jeff Goldblum would be joining the cast as well to play The Grandmaster. Known as one of the Elders of the Universe (just like The Collector from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’), the Grandmaster is known for being a fanatic about games of chance and skill. That’s why it’s said that when he makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, the star of ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Independence Day’, and ‘Earth Girls Are Easy’ will be connected to the Hulk’s involvement in gladiatorial battles. And now thanks to a social media post, we may have an indication of how else Goldblum may factor into the third solo film of the Asgardian Avenger.

Earlier this week, Jeff Goldblum took to Instagram to show how he’s preparing for ‘Ragnarok’. While some of his co-stars are already running around Australia in capes and armor, the actor is hard at work doing research for his role. And as with any comic book movie, there’s only one place to start:

Although, there is one very interesting thing to note about the particular issue that he’s reading in this picture. Goldblum is perusing ‘The Mighty Thor’ #374, which features a story titled ‘Fires of the Night’. His MCU character doesn’t appear in this tale, but Hela (who happens to be played by Cate Blanchard in the Thunderer’s new movie) has a central role in the plot. Could this be an indication that Grandmaster and Hela will end up crossing paths in the film? Might they be joining forces to dispatch of Thor and his smashing comrade Bruce Banner? Or is he simply reading anything and everything related to his latest project? I’m sure that we’ll find out in due time, especially since production is currently ongoing. But until this is cleared up, let us know what you think about this post, Jeff Goldblum’s involvement as The Grandmaster, or anything else related to ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ in the comments below.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ starring Chris Hemsworth, Karl Urban, Jeff Goldblum, Cate Blanchard, Tessa Thompson, Jamie Alexander, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, and Mark Ruffalo strikes theaters on November 3, 2017.
