Leading actress Shailene Woodley (‘The Fault in Our Stars’,’The Descendants’) recently made it quite clear that she was “not interested” in doing a television show based off of the ‘Divergent’ series but has now taken the time to clarify her comment when it comes to a fourth movie.

When ‘Allegiant‘ faired poorly at the box office, it sounded as if we would be seeing ‘Ascendant‘ move to the small screen and spawn a spinoff series. While the spinoff series might still quite likely be in development, it really looked like the fourth movie would have to get a theatrical release for the cast to return. Of course, maybe those early reports weren’t quite fully accurate as here is what Woodley said to clarify her prior comments about appearing in ‘Allegiant’:

“Well, I mean, if it’s a movie. “They haven’t finalized any decisions, so it’s actually a moot point to talk about it now, out of respect to Lionsgate and everyone involved. I’m not exactly sure where they stand so we are kind of all in a limbo game.

I signed up to tell the whole story of Tris [the protagonist in the franchise based on Veronica Roth’s novels], and I would love to be able to do that. Nothing would make me happier.”

That almost makes it sound as if Lionsgate hasn’t actually decided that they’d be taking it straight to TV and might be framing a final cinematic outing into a springboard for the series.

Fans of the series can only hope that we’ll be getting the final chapter here. You can check out her brief comments on the situation in this clip:

Are you hoping that ‘Ascendant’ gets a cinematic release and isn’t a TV movie designed just to kick off the new series? Would you even want to see the final chapter if it isn’t released on the big screen? Share your thoughts below!
