The first season of ‘The Punisher‘ will introduce Ben Barnes (‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’,’Seventh Son‘) as a series regular in the role of the villain that Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle will be squaring off against. This casting news almost makes you wonder if his character Logan on HBO’s upcoming ‘Westworld’ is set to survive the first season or if shooting scheduled are varied enough where this won’t be an issue for filming.
While we don’t know which villain that Barnes will be playing as of yet, one rumor pegs him as Bobby Saint who was previously portrayed by James Carpinello in the 2004 film. For those just dipping their toes into Marvel’s street level crime, he was just a minor player in the film whose death triggered a feud between the Saint family and Castle. Honestly, I’m hoping this rumor is put to rest pretty quickly as I’d much prefer him playing one of Castle’s more notorious enemies.
While I’m pretty sure we’d all like to see a return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk for The Punisher to go up against if the comics and his last on-screen visual of being in prison is any indication it wouldn’t surprise me to see him behind whatever Castle is up against. The Kingpin of Crime always has his hands in every criminal enterprise in the city so if this isn’t a new upstart who thinks that he’s trying to fill Fisk’s apparent void from being off the streets, it is likely someone who is working for him.
Even if he doesn’t know it.
