Though Nightcrawler, Cyclops, and Jean Grey all played a part in the epic final battle in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’, the young mutants (along with their partner in crime Jubilee) were largely absent from the theatrical cut of the movie despite appearing in set pictures and early promotional material. One scene in particular that was left on the cutting room floor featured the teenage X-Men exploring a mall, something that Kurt Wagner had yet to do in his life. Reports of the scene indicated that it was hilarious, but when Bryan Singer’s follow up to ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ hit theaters, all we got was the tail end of the journey that included a thinly veiled ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ joke. However, ahead of the film’s home release next month, this scene has finally seen the light of day.

Over the weekend following the digital release of the latest Marvel mutant movie from Fox, the infamous mall scene hit the web to the delight of True Believers everywhere. Not only do we see the characters played by Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Lana Condor fleshed out more, but we also see Jubilee finally using her powers in an X-Men movie. On top of that, it’s just really great moment after really great moment. You can check it out for yourself below courtesy of Tumblr user xmenladies:

To this day, it is still unclear why this scene was cut down so much in the theatrical version of the movie. As we mentioned, it does a lot for these characters, but also it’s just plain fun. Plus, this is a great snapshot of teen life in the 80s. Malls were quintessential for kids growing up and to see these mutants participate in this particular rite of passage before being thrust into battle for the first time would have been a very nice touch. And seriously, how do you cut ‘The Safety Dance’ from a superhero movie about the 80s? For shame, 20th Century Fox. For shame.

What do you think about this deleted scene from ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’? Are you disappointed that it was left on the cutting room floor? Why do you think the filmmakers decided to leave it out? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ starring Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Ben Hardy, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Lana Condor, Olivia Munn, and Oscar Isaac is available now on Digital HD and will hit Blu-ray and DVD on October 4, 2016.
