game-of-thrones

Since the sixth season of ‘Game of Thrones’ ended back in June, fans have been grasping at any news they could get regarding the acclaimed HBO fantasy series based on George R.R. Martin’s popular books. Though this is typical behavior when it comes to this show because of the fairly long wait between short seasons, it’s especially true in this case due to the fact that the seventh season has been condensed and delayed until late 2017. In fact, some people are even clinging to rumors from less than reliable sources.

During Labor Day weekend, reports began to surface that said iconic actress Angela Lansbury would be heading to Westeros next year. Many outlets picked up on the news and fans got very excited that the ‘Murder, She Wrote’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ star would be joining the expansive cast that already consists of a number of venerable actors and actresses. However, Entertainment Weekly did some digging and learned that this casting announcement was not accurate. After reaching out to the 90-year-old Oscar winner’s team, they discovered that the original report that stated Lansbury, who was last seen on TV in a production of ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ on PBS in 2015, would appear in two episodes of season seven in a “minor cameo” similar to Ian McShane is false. This story came from a German tabloid newspaper called Bild that is apparently known for “its mix of gossip, inflammatory language, and sensationalism”, so many took it with a grain of salt. But this is definitely bad news for those holding on to a sliver of hope that the news would be true.

Though it would have been pretty cool to see the legendary Lansbury share the screen with Diana Rigg, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Aiden Gillen, new addition Jim Broadbent, or any other of the many cast members on ‘Game of Thrones’, this instance teaches us a few very valuable lessons: Don’t believe everything on the internet and always check your sources.

Are you disappointed that Angela Lansbury won’t be making an appearance on ‘Game of Thrones’? Had she actually been cast on the show, who would you have liked her to play? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
