Today, Syfy is helping celebrate the 50th anniversary of ‘Star Trek‘ with a Marathon spanning the entire day! They are celebrating with running 3 classic ‘Star Trek’ films all day long on the network and into tomorrow while on SyFy.com they will have more events including a fun little online video which we have a first look at below. Honestly, this is a day that Trekkies everywhere will be thrilled to celebrate!

We learned recently that Walter Koenig who played Chekov in the original series felt that ‘Star Trek: The Voyage Home’ was his favorite movie from the franchise so that is good to see here and a few years back at 2013 Creation Entertainment’s Official Star Trek Convention the guests voted ‘First Contact’ as their second favorite film, ‘The Voyage Home’ as their fourth, though ‘Generations’ popped up in the 8th spot.

It’s hard to deny the appeal of bringing two of the most influential captains in not just ‘Star Trek’ but science fiction in general together on the big screen even when it doesn’t usually rank in the top 5 for fans.

The video I mentioned above will go live online at noon PT and is titled “Star Trek IV as Described by Whales” but you can get an exclusive look here! Obviously, this is poking fun at the whales in the movie. Here is their description of what we’ll be seeing:

George and Gracie the Humpback Whales are clearly the true stars of “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home,” which airs today Sept 8th on Syfy. In any event, they have a lot of important observations about the movie which we have brought to you because we care about you, and we care about whales.
