supergirl the flash

The CW is finally giving musical-loving DC Comics fans exactly what they want. The masses have been clamoring for a musical episode featuring the stars of the network’s superhero shows since many of them are extremely talented singers. But aside from a few musical moments at conventions here and there or special videos, it looked like it would never happen. However, Greg Berlanti and the gang are making it happen with a two-part musical crossover with ‘The Flash’ and ‘Supergirl’. And as if that wasn’t awesome enough, a new rumor puts a fan favorite filmmaker at the helm of these highly anticipated episodes.

According to That Hashtag Show, Joss Whedon is lined up as the director of the upcoming DC hero musical extravaganza. Based on his previous work with iconic superheroes in ‘The Avengers’ and his experience with his own musicals like ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog’, the ‘Once More With Feeling’ episode of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, and a Season One episode of ‘Glee’, this would a match made in heaven if it turns out to be true.

Additionally, the plot of the crossover is said to involve The Music Meister, a villain created for the animated series ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ that was voiced by Neil Patrick Harris. Given his past history with the operatic offender and Whedon, as well as the producers’ reverence to the past iterations of these characters, it wouldn’t be too shocking if Harris appeared as the live-action version of Music Meister. He would most certainly be a welcome addition to the immense pool of vocal talent that already includes ‘Glee’ alums Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist, Tony Award winners Jeremy Jordan and Jesse L. Martin, former Team Starkid member Carlos Valdes, and all-around entertainer John Barrowman (who recently was upped to a regular on all DC TV shows on The CW).

What do you think about Joss Whedon potentially directing the ‘Supergirl’/‘The Flash’ musical crossover? What songs do you hope to hear these heroes sing? And how awesome would it be if John Barrowman and Neil Patrick Harris shared a duet as Malcolm Merlyn and The Music Meister? Share your excitement in the comments below.
