shoretrooper-1Aside from being the first stand-alone ‘Star Wars’ film, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘ is also introducing us to at least two new types of Stormtroopers.

During the Star Wars Celebration, we got a closer look at the new Shoretrooper (sadly, though, we didn’t get a better shot at the Shadowtroopers who will also be making an appearance). There wasn’t a lot of new details about this class of Stormtrooper but we did learn that they “patrol the beaches and bunkers of the top secret military headquarters in the film.”

One can assume that this will be the headquarters where Jyn Erso and her team will eventually break into and steal the plans of the first Death Star, though only time will tell. It is always possible that there will be multiple attacks against Imperial bases in the movie.

While reminiscent of the forest troopers from ‘Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi’, these seem to be responsible for just beach warfare which makes them closer to Marines than say the standard Stormtrooper being the equivalent of the Infantry. We already know from the latest preview poster from the film that there is a beach incursion so it looks like that is where these troopers will be used.

This marks the second class of new Stormtrooper that will be used in the film and makes you wonder if we’ll be getting more as well.

Are you looking forward to ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’? Do you think these new marine classed Shoretroopers will be better shots than what we usually are used to seeing? Share your thoughts below!
