While ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘ hasn’t been released yet we’ve just learned that the sequel to J.K. Rowling’s next big hit is already in the works that will be taking things in a “new direction.” This has all come out when director David Yates has opened up a bit about the script that Rowling penned for the upcoming follow-up which takes place in America.

We’re already going to be getting an entirely new world as America’s wizards are completely different from those that we’ve already become familiar with as magi-zoologist Newt Scamander is soon to find out when he arrives in New York:

“We’ve seen the script for Part 2, for the second movie, which takes the story in a whole new direction – as you should, you don’t want to repeat yourself. The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her.”

Sadly, Yates wasn’t too open for follow up questions and wouldn’t reveal as to if the film would be located in America or somewhere else entirely or to which cast members would be returning. Though with rumors that younger versions of some of the character’s we’ve met through Harry Potter may be popping up, that alone should have us excited!

Either way, Harry Potter fans should be thrilled at the expansion of Rowling’s universe and the first shots have all looked fantastic.

Oh, did I mention that we also have a new still from the film which shows off Newt?
