It is no wonder that ‘Stranger Things’ has been receiving such positive reviews in the weeks before its premiere, as the recently released first 8 minutes of the show (titled ‘The Vanishing of Will Byers’) , clearly demonstrates that this show is the real deal. It has style, confidence, creepiness, and the touch of Spielbergian 80s nostalgia that really manages to pull you in as a viewer, and make you want to keep watching.

In 8 minutes they establish most of the cast and their relationships to each other, have a thriller movie style cold open that teases us with where the Big Bad came from and is capable of, and then closes with the disappearance of one of the boys introduced earlier, whose loss is foreshadowed earlier when he fails to kill a monster and is taken out during a Dungeons and Dragons game.

The show comes to us from Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (of ‘Wayward Pines’ fame), and features a cast that includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton and Matthew Modine. If you were a fan of supernatural Spielberg type films in the 80s, it is definitely something you should check out, especially since Netflix seems to already have a lot of faith in the show.

Does it seems like a show that can maintain this level of suspense and quality throughout an entire season? Or should it have instead been a Netflix movie? Check out the full opening 8 minutes for yourself after the article, and then share your thoughts on ‘Stranger Things’ in the comments section below. And make sure head on over to Netflix to look for ‘Stranger Things,’ which premiered today on the streaming service.
