As the calendar moves slowly and inexorably towards November, Marvel movie fans count down the days until the next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe arrives: ‘Doctor Strange,’ the MCU’s first major foray into the world of the mystic and the magical.  A departure from the tone and style of the previous films in the comic-book company’s shared universe, most folks are intrigued to see what this film will hold in store, not only for the change-of-pace superhero-movie vibe but also for the A-list acting talent that includes Tilda Swinton and Benedict Cumberbatch.

As the Marvel hype machine begins to start chugging full-steam for the film, an “official” two-part comic series has been released to help tell the back-story of the film and encourage readers to get familiarized with the characters and setting of the tale.  Written by Will Pilgrim and brought to life by artists Jorge Fornes & Jesus Aburtov, ‘Marvel’s Doctor Strange: Prelude’ is in stores now, and we’ve been given a 5-page preview of the first issue!

Check out the preview pages below, which feature characters from the film including Benedict Wong’s portrayal of Wong and a female character that initial speculation tags as Zara Phythian’s character, Zealot.  From Marvel themselves:

MARVEL’S OFFICIAL PREQUEL! A powerful, ancient relic has been stolen from the British Museum – a relic that could do significant damage in the wrong hands… Enter the MASTERS OF THE MYSTIC ARTS! The team is on a mission to find the relic and the mysterious mystic who stole it – but will they be able to track her down before it’s too late?!

‘Marvel’s Doctor Strange: Prelude #1’ hits stores today, July 6, 2016.
