tyne-dalyIn another instance of “I have no idea who they are going to play” we’ve just learned that ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘ has added the amazing Tyne Daly (‘Cagney & Lacey’,’Judging Amy’) to the cast! Honestly, if we didn’t already know that Marisa Tomei was playing a rather foxy take on Aunt May I would have suspected that we’d be seeing Daly in the role. She’ll be joining a star-studded cast which includes Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Michael Mando, Bokeem Woodbine, Tony Revolori, Laura Harrier, and many more!

For betting big on Spider-Man after a few failed movies at the box office you can tell that Marvel and Sony are betting a pretty big budget with the cast so far. Of course, with Marvel Studios behind the movie, it will likely end up being a hit at this rate.

So with Daly not playing Aunt May who could she be? Obviously, with a younger Peter Parker in the mix, there is a good chance she could be playing a teacher at his school. If we’re throwing in The Daily Bugle at all she could also work there. A potential parental figure for Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane could also be in the mix. The most interesting choice would be if they do have The Vulture start off old as he is in the comics and she could be involved with him somehow. With Keaton playing the villain though they’d have to age him a bit for that theory to pan out.

Personally, I think that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures really just need to get around to sharing the cast list at this point as we have so many unknowns in the film which is due out next year. I highly suspect that we’ll be hearing quite a bit about the movie come San Diego Comic-Con 2016.

So close and yet so far!

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ directed by Jon Watts, starring Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori and hopefully Michael Keaton will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
