As they have been known to do, Sony packed their 2016 E3 press conference with a ton of news regarding their upcoming projects. Those in attendance were thrilled to hear updates on ‘Resident Evil 7’, ‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’, and Hideo Kojima’s latest game starring Norman Reedus titled ‘Death Stranding’. However, everyone was surprised to learn that a certain web-slinger would be swinging exclusively to the Playstation 4 for a brand new video game featuring one of Marvel Comics’ most popular heroes.
During their E3 presentation, Sony announced that Marvel would be teaming up with Insomniac Games to deliver an all-new Spider-Man that we’ve never seen anywhere before. With the working title ‘Spider-Man PS4’, this game will not draw from a previously established comic storyline or tie in with am upcoming theatrical release. Instead, the game developer behind ‘Ratchet & Clank’ and ‘Spyro the Dragon’ will put their own spin on Peter Parker’s heroic alter ego by combining the signature aspects of Spidey with all-new components like a snazzy new costume and the moves of a modern yet seasoned masked crimefighter. You can see the newest incarnation of the famed web warrior in action thanks to the first teaser trailer, followed by the synopsis for the game:
Starring the world’s most iconic superhero, ‘Spider-Man PS4’ features the acrobatic abilities, improvisation and web-slinging that the wall-crawler is famous for, while also introducing elements never-before-seen in a Spider-Man game. From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it’s Spider-Man unlike any you’ve played before.
Marvel and Insomniac Games have teamed up to create a brand-new and authentic Spider-Man story. This isn’t the Spider-Man you’ve met before, or seen in a movie. This is an experienced Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of nine million New Yorkers rests upon his shoulders.
Currently, there is no timetable for the game’s release, but in the mean time, there is plenty to discuss just from this short trailer alone. For starters, there’s no doubt that the costume will be a huge hot topic among True Believers, especially when it comes to the big white spider on his chest. I think that it looks pretty cool since it allows this Spidey to stand out from the previous iterations, but someone will no doubt disagree with me. Also, did we just see a new take on Rhino as well at the 0:43 mark or is that just some random henchman? Hopefully that answer come along with more details about the game in the coming months.
What do you think about ‘Spider-Man PS4’? Are you excited to see Insomniac Games’ take on the classic Marvel Comics hero? Are you disappointed that the game will be exclusive to Sony Playstation? And what do you think about Spider-Man’s new look? Let us know in the comments.
