SPOILER ALERT: This article is NOTHING BUT SPOILERS for ‘The Walking Dead’ Season Seven. Consider yourself warned.
‘The Walking Dead’ Season Six’s cliffhanger ending upset a lot of viewers. After a season of build up, the last episode ‘The Last Day On Earth’ ended with the introduction of new Big Bad Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) who delivered a lengthy soliloquy before making an example by killing one of the main cast.
But WHO?! The fact that this wasn’t revealed in the episode, caused some longtime viewers to swear off the show entirely. (Or so they declared online.)
No one but the show’s creators know who fell victim to Lucille (Negan’s barb wire-wrapped baseball bat). And the creators plan to keep it that way.
Producers are hoping to avoid the SPOILERS that plagued ‘Game of Thrones’ last summer when paparazzi snapped photos of Kit Harington a.k.a. the supposedly deceased Jon Snow on set, it essentially spoiled that the character wasn’t really dead… or at least he wouldn’t stay that way. Those close to the show, including Harington himself, fed the media cover stories (or outright lies) to quell this speculation, but sure enough, as of now, Jon Snow is alive.
What is ‘The Walking Dead’ doing differently? For starters, according to exec producer Greg Nicotero, Season Seven is shooting out of order. The show reportedly has three episodes in the can, but which three? For all we know, they could be shooting backward, in which case should a snooping photog snap a pic, it may not make any sense to them or to viewers. It could include characters that haven’t even been introduced yet.
But there are two actors/characters that it appears they haven’t snapped, because they haven’t been present for filming.

Okay then.
Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan have not been seen on set yet.
Yeun is in South Korea filming the upcoming feature film ‘Okja’ and his Instagram account confirms this. Similarly, Cohan is currently filming ‘All Eyez On Me’, the 2Pac biopic. So… does that mean Glenn and Maggie are dead?
Not necessarily. If Nicotero’s statement is true, perhaps Yeun and Cohan have worked out a way to juggle their burgeoning film careers with the show. Maybe they’ll come in and shoot their scenes later. Maybe the show isn’t just shooting entire episodes out of order, but scenes as well?
Or maybe after all the hubbub over Glenn’s fake-out death last season, both characters are being put on the back burner while others take center stage.
Or maybe they’re both dead. In the comics, Glenn was the character that Negan killed upon his introduction, so perhaps the show is actually going to follow that storyline exactly, unlike in the past when they have taken pains to deviate from the source in cases like this. And Maggie was in terrible shape at the end of ‘The Last Day On Earth’, after her pregnancy took an unexpected turn for the worse. If Glenn had his skull bashed in, could the shock have been so powerful that Maggie succumbed to her ailments?
Well… guess we’ll find out in October when the show returns.
What do you think? Do you believe that Maggie and/or Glenn will die in upcoming episodes? Or is this another fake-out? Or is this just a case of juggling a large cast with other obligations?
