Winter is coming and it will be a short one as the seventh season of ‘Game of Thrones‘ looks to only be seven episodes long. Hold the door and say it isn’t so! Only seven episodes left next year? How can they finalize the tales of Westeros with so limited a time left?

According to Jack Bender, who is a producer and director for the series, that is just the way things are. He was recently asked in an interview if he would be back for more ‘Game of Thrones’ but revealed that due to his schedule and the shortened episode count it most likely wasn’t in the cards:

“They’re only doing seven episodes, and they’ve got their regulars who have done it forever. I know that I had a wonderful experience doing the show and I know that Dan and David are thrilled with the shows, but I’ve got this series I’m mounting for the beginning of 2017 based on Stephen King’s trilogy of book… If available and they wanted me to, I would love to do that.”

While I’m happy to hear that he might be working on a Stephen King property, most likely Mr. Mercedes, no one is going to be happy about that episode count. We already knew from showrunner David Benioff that “nothing was set in stone” when it comes to the length of the next season but it looked likely to be a short one and this seems to confirm it.

Are you surprised that HBO is only planning seven episodes for the next season of ‘Game of Thrones’ or happy that they aren’t trying to flesh out subplots to make it into a full season? Share your thoughts below!
