Sequels and reboots are definitely plentiful in this day and age. Networks and studios are aiming to cash in on nostalgia and so far that’s proving to be fruitful. That’s why we’ve been revisiting everything from ‘Ghostbusters’ to ‘Full House’ to ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ to ‘Jem and the Holograms’. Of course, there’s also the countless superhero movies that dominate the box office every year. But now talks seem to have circled back around to one of the most popular sci-fi film franchises in the past 20 years.

While speaking to Loaded to promote his latest film ‘The Nice Guys’, producer Joel Silver discussed the possibility of rebooting or reviving ‘The Matrix’ with Warner Bros and the Wachowskis. Surprisingly, he revealed that there have been no talks yet, but Silver remains optimistic that more stories from that world could be told:

“We haven’t talked about it yet. I hope there’ll be a time we can do that at some point. That was very seriously designed as three stories and that was it, but we’ll see what happens.”

Previously, there were rumors circulating that WB was looking to bring back Neo, Morpheus, Trinity, Agent Smith, and all the rest after they had lost the ‘Terminator’ franchise, but nothing really materialized after those reports surfaced. With Silver’s comments, it doesn’t sound like it was something that was seriously considered at the time, nor is it something that will happen in the immediate future. However, things frequently change in Hollywood and it’s hard to guess what could come next.

Do you want to see an all-new ‘Matrix’ trilogy? Are you surprised that the idea hasn’t been tossed around yet? And what would you want to see in a new chapter of this story? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments.
