When word first got out that Greg Berlanti and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa were developing a TV series based on the characters of Archie Comics, a lot of people were slightly confused by the idea of bringing the poster child for a clean cut, All-American era that is long gone. Then, once it was revealed that it would be a much more subversive take on the material set in the present day that would take some inspiration from ‘Twin Peaks’, people were even more confused. But now it looks like we have a much better idea of what to expect from the ‘Riverdale’ on The CW.

Recently, the official Archie Comics Twitter account gave us our first real look at ‘Riverdale’ stars KJ Apa, Camilla Mendes, Lili Reinhart, and Cole Sprouse as the iconic characters Archie Andrews, Veronica Lodge, Betty Cooper, and Jughead Jones. In the picture, the gang is looking through the window of what looks to be Pop Tate’s Chok’lit Shoppe, the ice cream parlor that serves as a frequent hangout for the youth of the town. That last detail hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but we’ll call it an educated guess for now. While we wait for the answer, check out the picture below:

However, that’s not the only new preview we have for ‘Riverdale’. An extended synopsis was also recently released that gives us quite a few new details about the new versions of these characters. Though the love triangle between Archie, Betty, and Veronica has always been a thing in Archie Comics, forbidden relationships and tragic deaths are fairly new for these wholesome people. Now the whole ‘Twin Peaks’ comparison seems to make a little more sense. See for yourself here:

As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same. Archie Andrews is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music — not follow in his dad’s footsteps—despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy. Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him — certainly not singer Josie McCoy, who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind — as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones. Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves – which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice aren’t the only thing holding her back.

When a new student, Veronica Lodge, arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione, there’s an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom, Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows.
