Earlier reports indicated that the seed planted in ‘Batman V Superman’ of a defaced Robin costume would blossom into a full-blown ‘Under The Red Hood’ adaptation when Ben Affleck flew solo in a ‘Batman’ movie, but the latest word is that this isn’t the plan.
This is the latest buzz:
“It’s going to be crammed with Bat villains, which means that just about every major bad guy you’ve ever wanted to see in a movie will be in this movie. According to my sources Affleck and Geoff Johns, who has been working with him on the film, want to make the definitive Batman film. They want to tell the ultimate Batman story, and to do so they’re going to bring in all the big guns. They’re going to have a big, sprawling Bat universe already in place.”
One RUMOR is even that the movie may borrow from the video game ‘Arkham Asylum’ in which The Joker traps Batman in the facility used to temporarily contain Batman’s foes before they escape over and over and over. And over. Infinity.
If that’s the case, expect select Rogues to get larger parts than others, with many just making cameos. Keep in mind, in the new DC Expanded Universe, Batman has been active for at least ten years, so he already has a sizeable Rogues Gallery, many of which will be featured in ‘Suicide Squad’: The Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Deadshot (Will Smith). It’s already rumored that Deadshot may play a major role in the solo Batman movie, which may or may not be called ‘The Batman’.
Reportedly, the ‘Under The Red Hood’ idea was scrapped partially because it has already been adapted in animated form and partially because it too closely echoed the Winter Soldier storyline from rival Marvel Studios’ ‘Captain America’ movies.
‘The Batman’ (or whatever it will be called) has been confirmed by Warner Brothers, but no date has been selected for when it may arrive. Ben Affleck is set to direct and star in it, with input from Geoff Johns.
