Samuel-L-Jackson-Nick-Fury

You could say that Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury, former leader of S.H.I.E.L.D., was the one figure who opened up the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Until his post-credits stinger in ‘Iron Man’, movie audiences thought they were simply watching another stand-alone superhero movie.  But it was his brief (less than a minute long) cameo in which he teased “The Avengers Initiative” that gave the first glimmer that Marvel had something MUCH bigger in mind.  Now we know that that was an expansive cinematic universe that has set the standard for blockbusters with other studios scrambling to create their own similar shared universes.

If you need a reminder, here is the scene:

Unfortunately, fans won’t get a glimpse of Jackson’s Fury in ‘Captain America: Civil War’.  Where will Nick Fury pop up again?

Jackson stated:

“I think I’m in Avengers 3 and 4, but I’m not in Civil War.”

But if he were, would be he #teamcaptainamerica or #teamironman?

“Ahhhh, I don’t know. I haven’t given it much thought.  I’m Nick Fury — Nick Fury is above all that.”

Was that diplomatic or shady?  Or both?

At any rate, though Jackson won’t be sporting that incredibly warm-looking leather trenchcoat again for some time, he hasn’t disconnected from the larger Marvel U.  He apparently just wrapped up watching Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ which… was at least *conceived of* as taking place in the same universe as the movies and while Jackson was overall impressed, there was one character he wouldn’t mind seeing getting whacked at some point in Season Three.

DDV foggy fights with matt

Jackson may not be alone in his distaste for Elden Henson‘s Foggy Nelson, Matt Murdock’s best friend and legal partner.  The character’s role consists largely with arguing with Matt over the vigilante defender of Hell’s Kitchen.  And while many view Karen Page as the most likely casualty come Season Three, you never know…

What do you think?  Is Jackson being too hard on Foggy?  Also, are you sorry that Nick Fury won’t be part of the skirmish in ‘Civil War’?
