Cult favorite animated film ‘The Iron Giant’ is finally being released in both a regular release and a deluxe Blu-Ray boxed set this fall.  Last year, the underrated classic was re-released in theaters in a “Signature Edition” with two added scenes.  That version of the film will be included in the boxed set, along with a high definition remaster of the original version of the movie.

The boxed set includes:

  • “The Giant’s Dream” documentary NEW!
  • “The Iron Giant: Signature Edition” trailer
  • Theatrical version commentary by Brad Bird
  • Additional scenes, including alternate opening
  • Mini documentary segments
  • Teddy Newton The X Factor
  • Duck and Cover sequence
  • The Voice of the Giant
  • Motion Gallery
  • Brad Bird trailer

Warner Brothers has released this description of ‘The Giant’s Dream’ documentary:

“The Giant’s Dream” is the dramatic story about a rare moment in movie history that allowed a first-time director to make one of the world’s greatest animated films, “The Iron Giant.” Using stylized animatics, archival footage, original concept art, and revealing interviews, The Giant’s Dreamcharts the incredible ups and downs, industry firsts, and amazing history behind this iconic film, and its rebel director, Brad Bird.”

The “Signature Edition” will be available by itself in a standard release with a suggested price point of $14.99 while the “Ultimate Collectors Edition” which includes a hardcover art book, Mondo art cards and an Iron Giant toy carries a suggested retail price of $74.99.

The film features the voices of Eli Marienthal, Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr., Cloris Leachman, John Mahoney and Christopher McDonald with Vin Diesel as The Giant, in what may be considered his big break.  Last year, Diesel teased that a sequel may be in the works.

‘The Iron Giant’ has long been considered a lost classic that didn’t get enough attention when it was originally released, but over the years, fans have come to discover this beautiful film.  Bird has been pressuring Warner Brothers to release a high quality version of this movie for years and at long last it’s coming!

Both versions of ‘The Iron Giant’ will be available on September 6, 2016.
