Batman-V-Superman-Trailer-Fight-Heat-Vision

Even if everyone else is lowering their expectations and just praying for something salvageable to come out of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ it’s good to know that director Zack Snyder still seems optimistic about the film he has created. Recent news has him speaking about the R-Rated Director’s Cut of the film coming to DVD and BluRay, which apparently will include about 30 minutes of bonus footage, making the extended version about 180 minutes…that means three hours of watching Snyder direct his characters to fight, which may be awesome, or god-awful.

According to Snyder, the R-Rating is not for anything particularly juicy (no nudity, extra blood, anything like that), seems like it got the R-Rating just for the amount of extra violence (again, worrisome for Snyder, who crammed about 30 extra minutes of unnecessary Zod V Superman fight into the end of ‘Man of Steel’). In Snyder’s words:

“[The DVD version] is a half-hour longer, and some of that additional material is some of the stuff we took out for the rating. I was like, ‘Cool, I can put it back in for the director’s cut.’ There was nothing by design. This was the material I just put back in, and then when [the MPAA] looked at it again, they were like, ‘Oh, now the movie’s rated R.’ And, by the way, it’s not a hard R. There’s no nudity. There’s a little bit of violence. It just tips the scale.”

Of course, if nudity is your thing, there are reports that there is some nudity already in the PG-13 version making its way to theaters next week, though which character might be exposed in such a way is not yet known.

What are your thoughts on this movie already being 150 minutes, and getting an extra 30 minutes for the extended cut? Do you really think Zack Snyder will be able to keep us interested and engaged that long? Is there really that much more story to tell, or do you think its just a lot of gratuitous violence that probably was not necessary in the first place?
