preacher

We’re approaching the prmemiere of AMC’s next comic adaptation in ‘Preacher‘ and the latest images are set to introduce us to the charaters. The comic was originally penned by Garth Ennis and has developed a cult following which Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are hoping will love when their take on the series hits the small screen. It is a comic that was in development limbo for years as a film before the duo took it to television and had AMC dig into it in a big way.

SXSW will premiere the 2-hour pilot next week with the series scheduled to drop later this year.

We already were previously told from Goldberg that “It didn’t seem at first we should [deviate from the comic] that way and then we talked to Garth and he encouraged us to make small changes” and these first few images do show two major changes from the comics.

First we have a shot of Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, the central character of the show:

He is “a small-town Texas pastor who is imbued with the word of God, which allows him to command other people. ”

Next up we have a shot of Ruth Negga as Tulip where the first image will break a few hearts as they’ve gone brunette and not blonde:

I’m sure that I don’t have to tell anywhere here that when an ex-lover is thrown into the mix that things tend to go from bad to worse pretty quickly!

Finally we have Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy who for some reason isn’t wearing sunglasses and this will be a pet peeve to many of the fans of the comic. I mean he’s holding him so that has to be something, right?

Cassidy is an Irish vampire who will factor heavily into the series.

What are your thoughts on the latest shots from ‘Preacher’? Are you looking forward to the series premiere later this year? Do you think it can live up to the comic? Share your thoughts below!

Synopsis:

AMC is bringing fans “The Walking Dead Mega SWunday” event on November 1st at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. During the all-new extended 90-minute episode of “The Walking Dead,” AMC will air the world premiere of the trailer for AMC’s upcoming, highly anticipated series “Preacher,” as well as the television premiere of the “Into the Badlands” trailer.

In this all-new episode of “The Walking Dead,” “Here’s Not Here,” written by Scott M. Gimple and directed by Stephen Williams, the survivors must ask themselves who can be trusted, and better yet, can they change? Critics continue to praise the series, including Verne Gay of Newsday, who calls it “exceptional.”

Based on the twisted and popular ‘90s comic book franchise of the same name, “Preacher,” created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse, his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) embark on a journey to, literally, find God. The Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios co-production was developed for television by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (“This Is the End,” “Superbad,” “Neighbors”) and showrunner Sam Catlin (“Breaking Bad”). The series is set to premiere mid-2016.
