Over the weekend as his native New Jersey was left to deal with a massive snowstorm, Kevin Smith ventured to the Sundance Film Festival. After launching his career in Parky City back in 1994 with ‘Clerks’, the fan favorite indie filmmaker returned with his latest project ‘Yoga Hosers’, a ‘Clueless’ meets ‘Gremlins’ mashup starring his own daughter Harley Quinn Smith and Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose Depp. But for those who weren’t able to make the world premiere in Utah, Smith has given everyone a special preview of what’s to come from the second film in his True North Trilogy.

Following the film’s premiere at Sundance, Smith released the first clip from ‘Yoga Hosers’ on his YouTube channel. This snippet finds the Colleens back at the Eh-2 Zed following the events of ‘Tusk’ as two senior boys come in to invite them to a party. Though relatively simple, we definitely get a feel for what they were all going for. You can check out the clip below, followed by the official synopsis of the film:

Colleen and Colleen are BFFs AF. Manitoba is where they go to school together, do yoga together, play in a band together, and work together at a boring convenience store. Life is whatevs, but also on fleek. That’s kinda what being 15 and a half is all about. #RealTalk

So when two older guys invite the Colleens to a senior party, the girls are determined to go no matter what—even if that “what” is a terrible, secret evil that threatens to destroy everything decent and polite about Canada. Can Colleen and Colleen save the day and go viral? Will those senior boys prove squad-worthy? And what was that about a convenience store? I swear it sounded familiar…

Eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed the “Red, White, and Never Blue” t-shirt hanging behind the counter. And if you look closely at the graphics for Tyler Posey’s Gordon Greenleaf, you’ll notice a little allusion to his werewolf-ridden past. MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’. Though the references to ‘Tusk’ and MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’ are fun, I’m sure that everyone is more concerned about the crazy visuals that Smith chose to utilize in this film. The 8-bit music and the brightly colored Instagram-esque graphics are very reminiscent of Edgar Wright’s ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’. The vocabulary in the dialogue seems like a departure for Smith as well, but that’s likely due to his young stars (and pop culture in general) updating his 90s slang. Basically, the first clip shows us something way different than what we’re use to from the guy who brought us ‘Mallrats’, ‘Dogma’, and ‘Chasing Amy’, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully, we get to see more in the form of an official trailer sometime soon.

What do you think about the first clip from ‘Yoga Hosers’? Are you a fan of the different filmmaking muscles that Kevin Smith is flexing with the next chapter in his True North Trilogy? And are you excited to see the Colleens of Eh-2-Zed face off against an ancient evil from beneath Canada’s crust? Sound off in the comments.

‘Yoga Hosers’ starring Harley Quinn Smith, Lily-Rose Depp, Justin Long, Ralph Garman, Austin Butler, Hayley Joel Osment, Natasha Lyonne, Tyler Posey, Adam Brody, Tony Hale, Genesis Rodriguez, Johnny Depp, and Stan Lee doesn’t have a release date yet, but one is expected to be announced soon.
