The last time we saw Darth Vader on the big screen, he wasn’t looking too hot. Of course, that could be attributed to the fact that only his skull appeared in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, but that skull has still seen better days. But if the latest rumors about ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ are true, then the former Anakin Skywalker will be restored to his iconic, intimidating self in the first Star Wars Anthology film.

Previously, Vader had been rumored to appear in Gareth Edwards’ upcoming spinoff set in a galaxy far, far away. Although, it was not expected that the role would be big enough to bring back the legendary James Earl Jones back to voice the feared villain. However, a new report from Making Star Wars says that not only will the veteran actor be back to reprise one of his most recognizable roles, but the production is bringing back Brian Muir, the sculptor that famously created Darth Vader’s helmet and armor for ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’. That’s right, kids. Not only will we get to hear that unmistakable voice again, but it will be coming from an apparatus meticulously recreated to match the character’s first appearance perfectly.

The details surrounding the ruthless Sith Lord’s appearance in ‘Rogue One’ are still uncertain, but the feeling currently is that he will be “a prominent player in a few scenes and something to fear for the heroes” so that the opening of ‘Episode IV’ is simply a continuation of this film where the Empire is chasing down the stolen plans for the Death Star. As production continues over the next few months, we’re bound to hear more about the character’s involvement in the story since pictures and random chatter is bound to escape the set sooner or later. But until it all comes out officially from Disney and Lucasfilm, it’s best to take this news with a grain of salt for now.

Do you think that Darth Vader will be involved in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’? And how awesome would it be if originators James Earl Jones and Brian Muir were involved in bringing the nefarious antagonist back to life just as they did in 1977? Let us know what you think in the comments.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ starring Felicity Jones, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Riz Ahmed, and Mads Mikkelsen hits theaters on December 16, 2016.
