As it goes through the rewriting stage with 2013 Black List screenwriter Stephany Folsom, the cast of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is coming together. Aside from the usual suspects from the past two films like Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Jamie Alexander, we’ve heard that Mark Ruffalo would be bringing the Other Guy to Asgard as the Hulk is set to join the God of Thunder for his next adventure. Then last month, word got out that Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett would be bringing even more star power to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she is being lined up to play a badass character in Taika Waititi’s upcoming Phase Three film. Beyond that, we haven’t heard much about who exactly the actress would be playing. But now, it appears that we have a new clue courtesy of Bruce Banner himself.
While attending the BAFTA Awards Season Tea Party, Ruffalo spoke to Entertainment Tonight about his next outing in the MCU. But when asked about his co-star Blanchett being in attendance at the party as well, the actor may have let something slip about her character in the third ‘Thor’ feature:
“I’m so thrilled. I saw her at the Governors’ banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, ‘Please, please, please make this work! She’s just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting.”
Previously, there were rumors that ‘Ragnarok’ would see the introductions of Valkyrie, Hela Queen of the Dead, and Amora the Enchantress. Naturally when Blanchett’s name was thrown into the mix, there was plenty of speculation that she would play one of those three. However, given this new information from Ruffalo, that rules out the heroic Valkyrie. That leaves Hela and Amora as possible roles for the acclaimed actress. But which could it be? For all we know, her character may be one that we haven’t even thought about yet. Although if I were to make an educated guess, Blanchett is pretty fit to play a queen.
