The Purple Man may not sound like a particularly threatening name for a super villain, but David Tennant‘s creepy voice over in the new ‘Jessica Jones’ trailer will get in your head the way it seems to the title hero’s.  Tennant plays the colorfully codenamed villain, also known as Zebediah Killgrave on the Netflix series opposite Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, a private eye whose career as a superhero ended when Killgrave mentally enslaved her and made her do his bidding and his dirty work for several months.  The show, like the Marvel Comic book ‘Alias’ upon which it is based, pick up in the aftermath of that traumatic experience as Jones tries to build a new life and put her disgrace in the past.

Ritter’s Jones appears to be piecing together a case, but it would appear that her leads will end up leading her back to Killgrave, which appears to be exactly what the criminal mastermind wants.

‘Jessica Jones’ is Netflix’s second series based on a Marvel Comics property, following ‘Daredevil’ this past spring.  Two more series, ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Iron Fist’ have also been announced to be followed by ‘The Defenders’ which will unite all four title heroes as a team.  Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter, will debut as part of ‘Jessica Jones’ helping to build a bridge between the series.

Jessica Jones is based on the Marvel Comics character created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. In the Netflix series, ever since her short-lived stint as a Super Hero ended in tragedy, Jessica Jones has been rebuilding her personal life and career as a hot-tempered, sardonic, badass private detective in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Plagued by self-loathing, and a wicked case of PTSD, Jessica battles demons from within and without, using her extraordinary abilities as an unlikely champion for those in need… especially if they’re willing to cut her a check.

The show also stars Rachael Taylor, Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville and Erin Moriarty.

All 13 episodes of ‘Jessica Jones’ will begin airing on Netflix beginning November 20th.
