While we don’t know if Rogue will be showing up in Fox’s upcoming ‘Gambit‘ film as Channing Tatum’s (’21 Jump Street’,’Jupiter Ascending,’ ‘The Lego Movie‘) love interest we do know that Anna Paquin (‘True Blood’,’X-Men: Days of Future Past’) won’t be playing her if she does. While Rogue and Remy LeBeau have a long sordid history in the X-Men comics, it seems that either she won’t be showing up in his solo film or Paquin’s part is being recast like so many other X-Men have been as of late. If that is the case it would be truly sad as they never used her to her true potential in the films and she’s been getting the short end of the stick ever since her first appearance. While the initial introduction could have had her grow into a truly amazing cinematic character, it was just never properly used.

The actress confirmed on Twitter that she wouldn’t be making an appearance in ‘Gambit’ below:

Now to be fair this could mean quite a few things. While I would hope it doesn’t mean that the character has been recast, if this solo film is an origin story it could just take place before these lovers ever met. I’m truly hoping for the latter as I’d love to see Paquin actually be able play the tough southern belle that she can be and not the weak character that they’ve had her run with so far. As casting has been in the works for Gambit’s first love, Bella Donna, I suspect that this is just going to be prior to when he and Rogue first meet.

What that may mean about Paquin potentially reprising her role down the line remains to be seen.

Of course the film’s greater concern right now might not be Gambit’s love interest but finding a new director since Rupert Wyatt left the project a couple weeks back.

Do you think Fox has recast Rogue for the film or is this just a case of being an origin story that would have been too early to include her character? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
