As we saw on this week’s Season Two premiere of ‘Gotham,’ the villains are on the rise. Not only has the Penguin stepped his game up, but we saw Selina Kyle and Edward Nygma reveal more of their true colors as well. Plus, we were introduced to the mysterious brother and sister tandem of Theo and Tabitha Galavan, who broke out a select group of Arkham inmates (including Barbara Kean) for their sinister plans. But what other notorious figures from Batman’s rogues gallery will pop up on the Fox series? The latest reports say that a certain group introduced as part of DC Comics’ New 52 may swoop in sometime soon.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, ‘Gotham’ creator Bruno Heller addressed a popular fan theory that the Court of Owls could factor into the Batman prequel series. Though he wouldn’t say when or how the violent cabal will be introduced in the show, the showrunner did confirm that the group would find their way into this version of the Dark Knight’s mythology at some point:

“We are absolutely going to explore that world down the line. Looking at the longevity of the show, we have to hold some cards back, we can’t just throw all of the elements, all of the story at once. The long arc of the show is Bruce Wayne’s journey of discovery down into the depths of the physical and meta-physical world of Gotham. The Court of Owls is a brilliant conceit that will absolutely be part of our storytelling. I just won’t tell you when.”

If you haven’t checked out the excellent story arc that introduced the group to the DC Universe, the Court of Owls were created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo in 2011 as an organized crime syndicate and secret society that has existed in Gotham since colonial times. The group consists the oldest and wealthiest families who use murder and money to manipulate the city’s political landscape throughout history. They also utilize kidnapped circus performers as trained assassins known as Talons to carry out their dirty work.

Judging by everything that we’ve seen on ‘Gotham’ so far, the Court sounds like the perfect thing to introduce in the second half of this season. After all, Bruce Wayne is learning more and more about his father’s extracurricular affairs and warring factions has been a common thread throughout the series so far. Finding out that one group has been secretly pulling the strings for centuries would be quite the reveal to throw everyone for a loop.

Are you excited about the Court of Owls coming to ‘Gotham’? How do you think the group will be introduced on the show? And do you have any actors and actresses in mind to bring the characters from the page to the screen? Sound off in the comments below.
