Earlier this week, E! News broke the story that Jamie Chung would be returning to ‘Once Upon A Time’ on ABC to reprise her role as Mulan for a multi-episode arc spanning the first and second half of season five. When we last saw the mighty warrior, she ran off with Robin Hood and his Merry Men when she learned that Princess Aurora was pregnant with Prince Philip’s child. But now that she’s back, is it possible that she could be reunited with her love? New comments from the showrunners may point that way.
According to Entertainment Weekly, executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis promised after a screening of the season premiere that they would indeed be exploring an LGBT relationship on the upcoming season. However, when pressed whether the couple in question would be Mulan and Aurora, they kept their answers ambiguous:
Kitsis: “We know that community have been big supporters of the show and we would love to be able to tell a love story that reflects that.”
Horowitz: “We want the show to reflect the world as it is now. Whether that’s going to be with any particular character, we’re not going to say.”
Kitsis: “But it is something that we’re going to do this year.”
Horowitz: “It’s something we want to do this year. It’s something we think is due and important to do on the show. This is the world we live in.”
But if the relationship doesn’t end up being the Sleeping Warrior duo of Chung and Sarah Bolger, then who could be Kitsis and Horowitz be referring to? It’s possible that they could be talking about a new couple from Camelot or maybe even Amy Manson’s Princess Merida. But let’s be real here: The seeds have already been planted with Mulan and Aurora. Let’s see them grow already!
What do you think about ‘Once Upon A Time’ spotlighting an LGBT relationship in the upcoming fifth season? Do you hope that they’ll revisit the love between Mulan and Aurora? Sound off in the comments.
