The premiere of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ is just around the corner, and with it comes a flood of new information about the goings on in the MCU, and how the 3rd season of the ABC series will be completely different than what came before. Most important, of course, is the formation of the Secret Warriors led by Agent Daisy Johnson/ Quake (formerly Skye) who will be overseen by Coulson and company. Then there is the end of the SHIELD “civil war” from last season, as the agency will need to form ranks to face the dual threats of the resurgent HYDRA led by Grant Ward, as well as the ATCU (Advanced Threat Containment Unit) featuring comic-baddie Lash, an Inhuman who hunts down others of his kind who have been transformed, to judge if they are worth of their “gifts.’ According to Jeff Bell, the world now is full of newly revealed dangers, including the Inhumans, Hydra and the ATCU, which is why the team needs all of its resources working together this season. In his words:

“These ‘aliens’ are popping up all over the world, without anybody to guide them, so there’s a lot of fear and paranoia. [The ATCU] really are against us, which forces our team to come together, whereas we were splintered last season.”

And here is more pertinent information:

  • The mystery of what happened to Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) after she was swallowed by the Kree Stone in the ‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 finale post-credits scene will be explained, with Bell simply teasing that the answer is “fun stuff.”

  • Ward will evolve from the confused, allegiance-shifting, ex-agent he was in season 2 (“a vessel of somebody else’s wrath,” as Bell puts it) into a formidable baddie himself.

  • Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) will be off spending time with ex-husband Andrew (Blair Underwood) when season 3 begins, but any rumors of her having a smaller role on AoS this season are an“exaggeration,” says Bell.

All in all, it means there is a lot of exciting things coming for SHIELD this season, even beyond whatever happens to Mockingbird and Hunter which causes them to leave on their own spin-off, whose title of ‘Marvel’s Most Wanted’ may be a hint as to why they will no longer be working with SHIELD.
