NBC doesn’t want to give up on Dracula quite yet and is planning to introduce the world to the ‘Brides Of Dracula.’ Sure the ‘Dracula‘ series starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers may have been cancelled pretty quickly but the network still has a love for the Prince of Darkness. Or, at least his princesses. Between ‘Dracula’ and more recently ‘Hannibal‘ having been cancelled, it is clear that they want to love the horror genre but just don’t seem to get the ratings to support it.

I suppose that’s why they are taking these classic horror villains and turning it into a modern day drama.

That’s right folks, instead of three seductresses of evil who had apparently evaded death at the hands of Van Helsing, we will instead going to be in modern day New York City in a Gothic inspired soap drama. The series is being penned by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti who have secured a pilot production commitment from the network.

The series is putting the three into a world where they are trying to keep their family together and what they have to do in order to maintain the lives that they have become accustomed to. It is a show about empowered women and one has to wonder if Dracula is still alive or will even be referenced on screen.

With a pilot commitment there is of course no guarantee that the series will get an order. The concept is just enough of a change to an existing property that might garner interest but they are going to have to put together something amazing if they want audiences to really sink their teeth into the show and keep coming back for more.
