Spoiler alert for anyone wanting to come into ‘Captain America: Civil War’ without a clue as to what is going to happen, this article will contain some rumors and guesses that more likely than not will turn out to be correct.

So just right off the bat, the person being rumored to die in the next film in the MCU is T’Chaka, leader of Wakanda and father of the Black Panther. If you were unaware who the character is, it would be understandable as in the comics his death was part of the origin story for the Black Panther. T’Chaka led Wakanda and maintained its isolationist policies until he was summoned to the U.N. for trade negotiations, where he and his family were attacked by Ulysses Klaw and T’Chaka died protecting his wife and son. This event is what will eventually spur T’Challa to take up the mantle of the Black Panther and lead Wakanda/ protect the country’s Vibranium same as his father before him.

So how will this work in the context of ‘Captain America: Civil War?’ Here’s the basics of the theory: Instead of trade negotiations T’Chaka will come to the U.N. among other world leaders to discuss Superheroes (i.e. The Avengers) and whatever accords or restrictions are being placed on them. The MCU Ulysses Klau will assassinate T’Chaka, which will spur his son to come to the US to take his place, becoming the Black Panther in secret in order to investigate his father’s death.

There are probably some subtleties that I am missing, but I would not be surprised if that is the gist of what is going to happen, and I like that the MCU is taking the time to set up T’Challa and the Black Panther correctly before launching the character into his own stand-alone movie. The only worry is how much time will be spent on T’Challa and his family, especially in a film already jam packed with other characters.

What are your thoughts on this news? Was it unexpected, or based on the comics did you already think T’Chaka would have passed in the MCU? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
