I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but while Disney is releasing a new set of ‘Star Wars‘ Steelbook Blu-rays and complete collection, neither one are going to contain an original cut of the film. Still, if you didn’t pick up the previous Blu-ray collection or digital releases this might be something to look forward to. On November 10th we’ll see Lucasfilm, Disney, and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment first releasing the new collected editions with Darth Maul featured on ‘The Phantom Menace’, Yoda on ‘Attack of the Clones’, General Grievous looking out from ‘Revenge of the Sith’, Darth Vader front and center on ‘A New Hope’, an imperial Stormtrooper on ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, and finally Emperor Palpatine graces the cover of ‘Return of the Jedi’.

Interesting choices as we see only one hero on the five covers that are on display. No shots of Luke, Leia, and Han almost make you have to wonder why things are so villain-centric here.

The contents of the Blu-rays will have existing commentary from the cast and crew though not much else. However, the ‘Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ which is being released on October 13th will have a slew of extras as well as new artwork which includes Darth Vader as opposed to young Anakin. Another change on both of these is that the “Episode #’ has been removed from the titles which appears to be more in line with the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ naming scheme.

We have close up shots of ‘Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ and the individual Steelbook covers below!

It really looks as if the Steelbooks are just being released for collectors or those who don’t care about the extras. If you missed the first release of ‘The Complete Saga’ this one may be worth picking up for you if you aren’t waiting in the hope that the studios are able to work out an original cut edition to pick up.

Are you looking forward to either of these re-releases of ‘Star Wars’? Are you awaiting a new release of the original cuts of the films? Share your thoughts below!
