Obviously, when it comes to DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. at San Diego Comic-Con, the main attractions are the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel thanks to next year’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and the announcement for the next Batman feature film. However, during their panel on Saturday morning, the studio teased the coming of an epic team up film coming our way. And no, it’s not ‘Suicide Squad’ (even though that should be pretty awesome as well).
After WB presented previews of ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’ and ‘Pan’, it was time for the DC Cinematic Universe to descend upon Hall H. To kick off the festivities, a video package was shown reviewing DC’s history on television and film narrated by ‘Dawn of Justice’ director Zack Snyder and stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. But amidst the recap of where we’ve been and where we’re going with DC, a new logo appeared to announce a ‘Green Lantern Corps’ film coming in 2020.
As we’ve all come to know, ‘Man of Steel’ marked the start of a brand new DC Comics presence on the big screen. Like Marvel, they aimed to create their own series of interconnecting movies that created a cohesive universe. In order for that to happen, all previously released franchises for heroes such as Batman, Green Lantern, and Superman would be rebooted. This proved to be especially good news for GL fans that were extremely disappointed by the 2011 adaptation starring Ryan Reynolds. But in the new reboot, would Hal Jordan still be the star?
Fans have expressed their desire to see Green Lantern John Stewart make his theatrical debut, but recently rumors surfaced saying that the next film featuring a Lantern would feature multiple members of the Green Lantern Corps, the galaxy-wide peacekeeping organization that consists of Jordan, Stewart, and a number of other representatives from all over the universe. And though there was no big announcement at the panel, the studio seemingly confirmed this rumor to be true.
What do you think about Warner Bros. developing a Green Lantern Corps movie? Which Lanterns do you hope to see in the film? And if they’re working on the green one, do you think that other Lanterns are on their way as well? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
