If you haven’t been getting enough ‘Terminator: Genysis’ TV spots, then have no fear, because they keep on coming. The last few seem to have eschewed the “Inception Womp” they had in earlier commercials and have replaced it with dubstep music. Again, nothing particularly new in any of them, except for the one titled ‘July 1st.’ This one has a couple of quotes from James Cameron.

While Cameron was the director of the first two ‘Terminator’ movies, he wasn’t involved in ‘Genisys.’ Cameron has, however, given the movie a lot of praise stating “Terminator has been reinvigorated,” a not-so-subtle reference to the fact that pretty much every Terminator-related project after ‘T2’ hasn’t exactly lived up to fan expectations. Coming from Cameron himself, I would take this is as pretty high praise. He also said that “The twist is more than you expected.”

Now this is kind of an odd statement to put in a trailer that actually shows you what the major plot twist is. In fact, John Connor being a sort of nano-machine terminator-cyborg has been known for a while now, so it’s actually exactly what I’m expecting. (I really wish they hadn’t advertised this plot twist. I would have much preferred to have been surprised.) Some people have used this oddity as fuel for rampant speculation that there is actually a second, even bigger, plot twist in the movie. Now I love rampant speculation as much as the next guy, but I just don’t buy it. It’s not that I think that the people making this movie aren’t clever enough to do that, just that I don’t think they’re trying to be that clever. It’s an action movie, not a spy thriller.

But what do you think? Is there another plot twist we should anticipate or was he just talking about the John/cyborg thing? What’s your opinion on Hollywood trailers constantly spoiling otherwise mind-blowing plot twists? Let us know in the comments below.

‘Terminator: Genisys’ will be out in theaters on July 1st.
